Brain Rules is a book written by John Medina where he goes through 12 principles called brain rules describing how our brain works and how to improve our life based on those principles. John is a molecular biologist who spent his whole life studying how the brain works, and in the book he shares what scientists know for sure about the human brain. Brain Rules In this article I want to share five powerful lessons I’ve learnt from Brain Rules. Most of them are common sense for many people, yet they are rarely applied in our everyday life. Exercise. Everyone knows that exercise is good for our body, but few know it’s good for our brain too. Cardio exercises are extremely healthy because they improve our cardio-vascular system which in turn helps the oxygen to flow in our body. Many studies have shown that exercise is good for preventing aging and common diseases, but also brain performance. The good news is that it doesn’t matter how old you are and if you haven’t exercised ...
This is so true. Excerpted from Jane Smiley's Blog: Some years ago, I was talking to a man about guns. At the time, I didn't really know anyone with guns (still don't), but he did. He had had guns himself. He said, "I gave my gun away, because when I had it, every time something happened that made me mad, my mind would start circling around that gun, and I would be thinking about using it. But the mental state my interlocutor was describing years ago is the price we have to pay, along with, of course, the accidental deaths of children and other unprepared and careless people who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and in proximity to the wrong gun. What I would like is for the gun-toting right wing to admit that there is a price we pay, that sense...
This chart is from CNN. The median income in the US is $40,000. 80% of all households make below $100,000. That means that for 80% of the country Obama will lower their taxes. Shouldn't that mean that Obama will win by 80%? Also look at th 2.9million number. McCain lowers their taxes and Obama taxes them more. Those that have should help those that don't. BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS Here's how the average tax bill could change in 2009 if either John McCain's or Barack Obama's tax proposals were fully in place. MCCAIN OBAMA Income Avg. tax bill Avg. tax bill Over $2.9M -$269,364 +$701,885 $603K and up -$45,361 +$115,974 $227K-$603K -$7,871 +$12 $161K-$227K -$4,380 -$2,789 $112K-$161K -$2,614 -$2,204 $66K-$112K -$1,009 -$1,290 $38K-$66K -$319 -$1,042 $19K-$38K -$113 -$892 Under $19K -$19 -$567
